CHERIEBAKER
A r t i s t 4 1 1
Cherie Baker has been painting since the age of three...or so the family story goes. An irresistible array of open paint cans readied for the living room walls
inspired her first mural. Much to the chagrin of her parents, her passion for paint decor continued -- nothing was safe from her brush work -- from the piano
to the front door.
A career in an artistic field seemed destined after Cherie moved to Philadelphia to study painting after graduation. As life would have it -- creative sparks
and pending starvation fueled several successful paths: chef, caterer, cookbook author and clothing designer -- all venues that she continues to explore.
After moving to California, Cherie assisted an art director friend on a low budget horror film and was hooked -- a profession that melded many of her skills and experience. She worked her way up the art department ladder -- acquiring architectural drafting, construction, scenic and decorating skills along the way.
For more than twenty years, Cherie has worked as an Emmy-nominated production designer in the entertainment industry. She is responsible for the design team that greatly contributes to the look of a film from set walls, paint colors, furniture, lighting, graphics and hand props. Her original paintings have been showcased in the sets of feature films, television, video games and commercials as well. See below...
Throughout life's twists and turns, Cherie's focus on her fine art has taken the back burner. There was never the right time to risk the tenuous assets of a freelance life...
Three years ago, a new year's resolution to explore her painting talent led her to relocate to a top floor urban space offering inspiration from every window. It has been quite
a journey...chapters for another time.
Cherie now balances both a thriving design career with an emphasis on painting and exhibiting her work...(and dreams of painting under the Tuscan sun).
